When responding to incidents involving HNS, the first steps usually are the same regardless of the substances involved, the circumstances of the incident and its location. Each time the response is based on an initial incident assessment, focusing in particular on the health and safety aspects and supplemented, throughout operations, by regular situation updates. The result of this assessment determines the actions to be taken.
