I Situation Awareness – Seafarers – Cycle of information gathering

In general, information received when determining response actions needs to be assessed and risks analyzed to determine possible action options. Chosen option is delegated and communicated to the emergency response team. The nature and evolvement of the situation requires constant information gathering and situational assessment to ensure the needed efficacy of response actions. Adjustments should be made according to emerging situational needs. Due to this, it is important to keep rescue authorities updated about the implemented and planned actions onboard.

The DV initial response actions are determined by ship specific Emergency Procedures which are deployed by the captain, who is responsible for emergency response actions on board.
